Question by nomadgrrrl: Yoga routine after abdominal surgery?
I’ve had two major abdominal surgeries plus a c-section within the last year. One surgery was to remove most of my colon due to blood clots from a pregnancy-related blood disorder and the second was to reverse an illieostomy. That last surgery was on Feb 8th. My question is, what kind of yoga can I start doing now? And what kind can I progress to? Is there anything I should avoid since I’ll be prone to hernias? I’ve done very simple restorative poses and sun salutations in the past, but I’m pretty much a yoga beginner. Although I used to bike/walk/run regularly, I’m really un-fit right now since I’ve been recovering from surgeries and health problems for the last year.
I live in a rural area, so I don’t have access to any yoga teachers or professionals to get advice or training from.

Hi. Sounds like you have been through alot this passed year, sorry to hear that and I hope health-wise your recovering and doing well now. wow. I’m not sure about you and doing Yoga though, Have you talked with your doctor about this, to whether your alright to be doing exercises like Yoga, when that would have you stretching those same muscles. I really think maybe you should discuss this with your doctor, and maybe even get a second opinion from another doctor as well, sure wouldn’t want you to harm yourself and end up back in the hospital for yet another surgery, that cannot be any fun. I know a little bit about yogo, and it’s good for the body, but your body has been through a good bit and recently, so to be safe, please ask doctors before you begin any strenuous activity. Congratualtions on the baby though!! Take care
